Fourth Quarter of Alex's third year
 (Nov. 16th through Feb. 14th)

"Hey look at me!  I'm Erkel!"

Alex was helping me crush dried bread for turkey stuffing and the crumbs kept flying in his eyes so I figured safety glasses would help.  They're cute, at least.  :)

He's moved on from creating lines with his Matchbox cars to creating rectangles:
My parents came for a visit at Thanksgiving and got Alex all tuckered out:
Here my friend Joost is reading Curious George to Alex.
Here I had him dressed in his fancy clothes so we could get a picture for our Christmas newsletter/greeting card.
Here is one of the many photos that was rejected for the Christmas greeting card...
Joost is Dutch so we went to the local Dutch Christmas celebration where Sinter Klaas comes on a boat with his Black Petes and gives goodies to all the kids.  The kids were encouraged to sit in Sinter Klaas's lap but Alex wasn't comfortable with that so we didn't do that.  He learned a Dutch word though: Peppernoten (a type of Dutch cookie).  They also make silly hats, as you can see.  It was fun!
Another bedtime story...
Here we're baking cranberry-apple crisp (using up the leftover cranberries from Thanksgiving).  Mmm nummy!
Well it's not a very good photo, and I wasn't very impressed with 'Santa,' and I had to be in the photo again this year, but we did it!  And Alex is smiling (sort of) this year, so that's a step in the right direction.  :)
Here he has stuffed a candy cane into his mouth (and gotten it all over his face):
Another day, another day of baking.  Here we are making Christmas cookies and Alex really likes playing with the cookie cutters.
Since Alex spent Christmas with Peter this year, we had pre-Christmas the weekend before Christmas.  This was on our "Christmas Eve" (Dec. 18th), when Alex was allowed to open one gift.  He chose this gift, a toy medical kit.
And here's our Christmas Day.  This motorized Hot Wheels racetrack is a big hit.
Some educational stuff...
Lincoln logs...
And a helicopter from Nanna and Grandpa!
Some post-Christmas silliness:
Another gift he received from Nanna & Grandpa, an electric train.  He played a little rough with it and it did not last a week.
Happy 2005 everybody!
I don't remember now why he had all these hangers but he sure had fun with them.
We bake a lot don't we?  Here we're making banana bread.  Alex likes to smoosh the bananas.
I have these very small silicone bowls and for some reason Alex got the idea that they would make good kneecaps.
Here's my favourite crowd all cuddled up together:
I have no idea what he's doing here but I thought it was very cute.  I might get this one framed.
"Can you hurry up and take that picture so I can get back to my pinball game?"
"It doesn't matter if it's February and I have no pants on!  I'm still going to play with the water!"
Apparently I have two dogs now.
"Look Mom!  I wrote 'MOM'!"

[Incidentally, I think that's spaghetti sauce around his mouth.]

"You know cocoa is very serious stuff."

Today is Alex's third birthday!  Happy Birthday Alex!

So, as you all know this update took about a year to post (my last posting was in November 2004).  I figured I'd give you a bit of an update and then hopefully in short order give you another one so we can get sort of caught up.  The next update will have Alex's third birthday party photos.  I'm not sure yet how I'm going to approach the updates going forward from here.  I don't think I'm going to do them quarterly.  Maybe semi-annual updates.  I'll try to get the next one done soon though!  Maybe I should get his third birthday photos in here before his fourth birthday rolls around, what do you think?
