Second Quarter of Alex's third year (May 16th through Aug. 15th)

"Hi again everybody!  Here I am with my green truck!"
Here are Jonathan (our next-door neighbour) and Alex playing on the top bunk of Alex's bed.  They were having a grand time.
This day, he "borrowed" Jonathan's goggles.
"This is my Santa Claus impression.  Ho ho ho!"

He likes to put his face into the bubbles of the bubble bath and I think it looks like a beard when he has bubbles on his face like this.

"See my red summer pyjamas?  They have cars and trucks on them!"
Isn't this a most excellent pout?!

He was upset because I wouldn't let him play with the camera.

"These are my nifty Clifford slippers!  Nanna gave them to me.  Thanks Nanna!"
Here he was riding his tricycle around and I was taking pictures and I asked him to look at the camera and he looked up right into the sunlight, so he's covering his eyes.  I thought it was cute.

He learned how to pedal his tricycle forwards, on his own, on June 16th (he was pedaling backwards a few days before that).

I debated whether to include this photo.  His crusty face and nose made me think against it but at the same time it's a funny photo.  I think those are my sunglasses he's wearing.

You may recall that we lost his sunglasses and refused to buy a new pair because I was sure the old pair would show up.  But I eventually broke down and bought him a new pair and within a week of buying the new pair (I kid you not) I found the pair we had lost.

This photo, obviously not of Alex, was taken by Alex.  He has learned how to turn on my camera, and so occasionally I will discover it turned on and some photos taken.  The photos are normally extreme closeups of things like chairs or the floor, but I thought this was a pretty neat one, so I kept it.

I eventually bought him a cheapo kid's camera (not a disposable, but a very cheap real one because I couldn't find any toy cameras) so now he plays with his camera instead of mine (mostly).

"Happy Canada Day folks!"

This day (July 1st, obviously) was a cold day and we had hot cocoa with mini marshmallows.  Alex was very impressed with the marshmallows.

For the 4th of July I decided that since Alex is an American we should do the American thing and go see fireworks.  We went to Marymoor Park in Redmond and it was a great evening.  Sunny and clear, as you can see.  Lots of people but not crowded.  Alex refused to have a nap that day so I didn't know if he'd last until the fireworks show, at 10:00 pm, but I figured we'd just see how it went.  He was in a great mood and ran around and had a super time.  It turned out, however, that the show was delayed until 11:00 pm.  Alex fell asleep at 10:40 and was completely dead to the world.  I couldn't wake him up and neither did the noise and music of the fireworks.  Oh well.  :)
Alex took this picture of me and I think he did a great job!
So then I got to take a good one of him.   :)
Here I caught him in a sneeze:
"It's not nice to take pictures of a person when they're at a disadvantage Mom!"
Here Annie and Alex are playing "tug" with Annie's snake.
Alex wanted me to take a photo of this bug:
Here he was vacuuming the small mat in front of my washer and dryer (in the garage).  He likes vacuuming.
When he tired of vacuuming he decided to sit in a discarded box.

Yes, he has a bruise on his right cheek.  That happened when he was with Peter so I don't know what he did.

Here Alex is sitting in the toy box my dad made for him.  My parents visited in mid-July and brought it with them.  It needed a few finishing touches before going into the living room, so that's why it's in the garage in this picture.
Here my neighbour and I were having a tree removed and Alex was very interested in what was going on.
Here he is sitting on my rowing machine and rowing.  Monkey see, monkey do.  :)
Lucy came to stay with us for the last weekend in July and had lots of fun with Annie and Alex.  Here Alex is trying to play tug with the two dogs.  I told him he would get bitten by one of them if he did this but he wouldn't listen.  He eventually got bitten on his arm (didn't break the skin) but it didn't stop him from playing with them.
I bought a weedwacker and it came in a tall skinny box.  Alex decided that he wanted to be lifted into the box, so this photo is taken looking down into it from the top.  When he wanted out, I tipped to box over gently and he scooted out.  Then he wanted to do it again.
Alex normally sits on his little toddler potty but in the last few days he's been wanting to sit on "Mom's" potty, so I figured I should record the event for posterity.  Of course, a soon as I got my camera out, he felt he needed to have his camera too, so this is what we get:

Peter has decided that Alex is ready for the next step in potty training: underpants.  I'm not so sure he's ready (I'm not so sure I'm ready!) but for the week of Aug. 9th to 15th I put him in underpants all day every day (diaper for bedtime at night) and we had potty breaks approximately every hour.  He could repeat to me the mantra of "I pee and poo in the potty.  I don't pee and poo in my underpants."  But talking the talk and walking the walk are two different things.  If I didn't insist on the potty breaks, he didn't have any problem going in his underpants.  He informed me on only two occasions in the whole week that it was potty time (instead of me informing him).  I guess it's a start.  But I really don't think he has figured out the "warning sign" feeling yet.

He does look very cute in his little underpants and it is a good time of year to be having accidents, since he's not wearing much clothing anyway.

This is what happens when you leave a 2.5-yr-old alone with paint while you write an email.  I plopped him in the laundry tub to wash him off and then decided I had to take a photo.

Yes, I have "sanitized" this photo.  Someone told me you can get in trouble for posting nude photos of kids on the internet so I'm not taking any chances.

"I am eating a very tasty plum!"

I had "retired" his booster seat but he found it in a closet in the basement and hauled it upstairs and wanted it strapped to his chair again.  So he outgrew his booster seat and then grew back into it.

It was only a few days ago but I can't recall why he was naked, why he was wet, or why he was in the dryer.  It might have been that we had just gotten out of the shower (I let him come in the shower with me some days because it's the easiest way to keep track of him while I'm showering) and we were looking for clean/dry underpants to put on him, and he climbed into the dryer.  But I'm not sure.  Obviously my brain has turned to mush.

Well that's it for the second quarter of Year 3.  Alex is now two and half years old!!  Can you believe it?!  A friend told me that a child's height when he's 2.5 years old will give a pretty good approximation of his adult height (the adult height, assuming the child continues to be properly nourished, etc., is twice his height at 2.5).  I measured Alex on Aug. 15th and he's a smidgen over 38.75 inches tall, which would make him about 6.5 feet when he's full-grown.  Half a foot taller than Peter!  My tall son!

On to the 3rd quarter of Alex's third year
