First Quarter of Alex's third year (Feb. 16th through May 15th)

"Hi folks!  I'm here with my yogurt and my Matchbox cars.  Did you know I'm 2 years old now?  Wow!"
"Being 2 means that I get to use a real cup and also the toilet now!"

My next-door neighbour Shelly gave us this potty because her younger son has outgrown it.  I did not plan on starting to toilet train Alex until late May (all the literature I've read says to wait until 27 months at the earliest).  But I figured having the potty hanging around wouldn't be a bad idea; he could get used to it and ask questions about it and become familiar with it.  He was the one who decided he wanted to sit on it without a diaper.

This cute Cat in the Hat shirt was a gift from Aunt Sheila.  Thanks Sheila!
My parents were visiting to celebrate our February birthdays and we had barbecued spare ribs one night.  We didn't think Alex would be interested in them but he was!
Since Alex was with Peter for his birthday on the 14th, we celebrated with a party on the 21st of February.  I made the cake and my Dad iced it and then I decorated it.  I think it turned out pretty well.  :)
And here's the birthday boy!

I can't remember who gave him that shirt but I think it was Sheila again.  It's a very cute shirt and gets a lot of comments from people.

Here he is opening gifts.
Here is adorable Miss Elizabeth Rollison.
The Rollisons gave Alex this very cool racetrack toy for his birthday.  It was definitely a hit.
Here my friend Stirling is reading to Alex from a book he received from Nanna and Grandpa for his birthday.
I bought Alex this battery-powered Jeep for his birthday.  I'll tell ya, the deck is not the right place for a 2-year-old to drive!  The Jeep has been moved to the back yard.
Alex likes to play on my bed:
On this day I decided to wash my living room area rug, so I took it out on the deck and Alex hosed it down.  Then of course we had to splash around on it.  It was very fun and when the sun warmed the water in the rug it even became pleasant on the tootsies.  So we soaped it up with dish soap and had a grand time.
"I am a coooool dude!"

I got these great sunglasses for Alex that are flexible and everything (so he can't break them) and we promptly lost them.  I have no clue where they are but I refuse to believe they're gone for good so I'm not getting a new pair!

Here Peter showed up with Alex on a Monday morning with Alex's hair having been buzzcut.  I guess he went a little short on the top.  But it's cute and summery.

He also has peanut butter on his face and blood under his nose from the nosebleed he sustained at Gymboree (from jumping over the air log and landing on his face).

This is a week later and his hair has not grown appreciably.

I got Alex this sand and water table (though I don't put sand in the sand side, I put water in it - that's the side that Alex is squatting in, in this photo).  Alex really likes to play with water so this is a great toy for him.

Here he is sitting in the sand side (without sand) again, and pouring water over his tummy.
"Mom!  Make the hose work!  I want water!"
Alex has an affinity for lying in Annie's bed.  Normally she leaves when he flops down on it, but this time she didn't.  It made a cute picture; I just wish the lighting had been better.
Back to the water table!
On this day I was trying to tidy my office so I had to do something to keep Alex entertained (because he often likes to be in the same room I am).  I gave him a bunch of flower stickers and he decided the best place for them would be on his tummy.
Alex has discovered the joy of licking the beater after making banana bread.
"I'm helping Mom make the bed!"
I don't know why I took this photo but it's cute.  The thing he's holding is a small flashlight.
Here Alex decided that he wanted to play in Annie's dog crate.  I took some really cute photos of the occasion but my camera was set on the wrong mode so most of them turned out blurry or really dark.
Look!  A picture with me!  We went to my parents' house for the Mother's Day weekend.  My Dad took this photo of us reading "Clifford's Halloween"
Here we walked down to the beach that's at the end of my parents' street.  It's a gravel beach, therefore not very kind on the feet, but it's close by so it's convenient.
Grandpa and Alex were talking about a big ship that was way out at sea.
I'm not sure what they were doing here but Alex appears to be having fun.  :)
I have a photo frame that requires a vertical 4X6 photo so I've been trying to get the "perfect" 4X6 of Alex.  I think this one makes the grade.

Well that's it for the first update of Year 3.  Sorry I was late getting this one out; it's been a busy time.  The next one is due in mid-August (hopefully I'll post it on time!).

On to the 2nd quarter of Alex's third year
