"It never fails: Mom always gets the
camera out when I'm eating!"
I don't give it to him often, but this is Nutella face. I spread it on bread and he tries to lick it off, thereby getting it all over his face. |

I love these fleece footed pyjamas and wanted to get a photo of him wearing them because he might refuse to wear them next winter. | ![]() |
A happy guy! | ![]() |
I have started putting Alex to bed at night-time in his big boy bed now, instead of his crib. That means that he sometimes gets out of the bed and wanders around. My policy is essentially that he's not allowed to come out of his room, but I don't mind if he gets out of bed. Normally he stays in bed, but every now and then I find him asleep in the rocking chair when I go to check on him. Isn't he adorable? | ![]() |
I don't know why I was taking pictures of him eating his peas but this photo was so funny I had to include it here. | ![]() |
My cousin Deanna came for a visit toward the end of November. We did the touristy stuff in Seattle. One day we went to Pike Place Market and brought Annie along. It was a COLD day and it was quite crowded so we decided the best place for Annie (to keep warm and not get stepped on) would be on Alex's lap in the stroller. Neither of them seemed to mind it, and all the passers-by thought it was extremely cute. | ![]() |
On another chilly day we went to the Science
Center and Seattle Center.
"Do you think this hat looks goofy? I'm just not sure I've made a good fashion decision here." |

Here, Deanna and Annie and Alex are having a good time together. | ![]() |
Here he found my rubber boots in the garage and decided to try them out. | ![]() |
"You're crazy, Mom, if you think I'm going
to sit on Santa's knee and not throw a fit!"
Today is our planned day to go visit Santa. |
![]() |
He was totally not interested in sitting
on Santa's knee. The only way he would go near Santa was if I was
holding him. So... I sat in Santa's chair and held Alex and Santa
crouched behind us. Alex kept holding his cuddle cloth in front of
his face, too, so it was hard to get a photo of him. This is the
best we could do:
(I wasn't anticipating having to be in the photo, so I wasn't wearing anything nice!) |

The sweater he was wearing in his Santa photo
was knitted for him last year by his Aunt Vibeke (who lives in
Norway). She sent another sweater this year, which Alex is
modeling in this photo:
Thanks Aunt Vibeke! |

Here we are on Christmas morning at my parents' house. Alex is working on his stocking and Annie is investigating some chocolates that Alex received. | ![]() |
After breakfast and getting dressed, we got
into the gifts under the Christmas tree. Alex received a
super-cool tractor from his Hansen grandparents. He was so cute -
he would put his foot on the little stepladder on the side of the
tractor and try to get into the cab, like he probably did with the real
tractor at the farm. I think he hasn't quite figured out it's a
scale thing.
Thanks for the tractor, Grandma and Grandpa Hansen! |

I bought a Mr. Potato Head (the kind that has lots and lots of body parts) at a yard sale for $1.00 and it was arguably the best toy over Christmas because it kept him occupied almost the whole time we were at my parents' house. | ![]() |
My Dad received a gift that was packed in styrofoam... the styrofoam pieces quickly became hats and Alex kept asking for his "hat" for the rest of the time we were in Victoria. | ![]() |
Alex received some Mega Bloks trains from Aunt
Christina and Uncle Bernt. These are a big favourite, and they're
interchangeable with his Mega Bloks cars, so they're doubly fun.
Thanks Aunt Christina and Uncle Bernt! |

Here he has opened the gift from the Rollisons:
a Bob the Builder book, that comes with its own hammer! Alex is really
into hammers.
Thanks Rollisons! |

Here he is setting up a bunch of wooden animals
he received from his cousin Caroline. We're working on naming all
the animals and he's doing a pretty good job.
Thanks Cousin Caroline! |

Here Alex is all dressed up in is Christmas finery for Christmas dinner. I'm thinking about using this outfit for his 2nd birthday photos because I can't think of any occasions for him to wear this outfit again. | ![]() |
And here, in typical boy fashion, he's getting his Christmas finery wrinkly. ;) | ![]() |
For Alex's Christmas present my father is making an oak toy box. It's not quite finished yet but we were admiring his work thus far. I think Alex is going to like it, judging from this test run. It makes a good flat surface for driving trains on, anyway. | ![]() |
My brother was at my parents' house for Christmas too, so Alex and Annie got to hang out with "Uncle Mike" a bunch. | ![]() |
Check out those blue eyes! | ![]() |
A kaleidoscope of toys:
This is New Year's Eve. |

"You know Mom, now that you've got me sleeping in a big person bed, I really like this even bigger big person bed..." | ![]() |
The fact that he's playing with trains while wearing high heels makes me feel that I should not be too worried about his masculinity. ;) | ![]() |
Here he was rubbing the stem from his grapes into a pile of peanut butter, then licking/sucking the peanut butter off of the grape stem. Hey, he's a tool user! | ![]() |
Here he is on my bed again. This time he is loving my teddy bear. As if he doesn't have enough of his own teddy bears to love. | ![]() |
Sheila sent these hockey theme PJs to Alex for his first birthday (I think) and I just recently realized that they might fit him now. Sure enough, they do, even though they're size 3T. Good thing I checked because they probably won't fit next Fall! | ![]() |
On this day he woke up with an oversaturated diaper so I decided to take him in the shower with me to rinse him off. He found my cottage cheese container (that I use to help rinse out the shower when I clean it) and promptly started filling and dumping it while in the shower. Then he continued filling and dumping it when we got out of the shower. He's really "into" filling containers. | ![]() |
Today we're having another go at colouring. Paper taped to floor, washable markers... well it wasn't too bad, but I decided that I was going to go back to washable crayons, even though he breaks crayons. The markers were just too stressful for me, even though they're washable. They're just too visible! And if you don't wash them right away then they can stain. | ![]() |
My parents went to Hawaii via Seattle so visited us for a couple of days before departing and then again for a couple of days upon their return. This was taken on the return leg of the trip. | ![]() |
It's hard to see in this photo but Alex has parmesan cheese all over his face. He loves parmesan cheese. He asks to eat noodles, just so he can have parmesan cheese. | ![]() |
The Master at work! This is the first day
he did circles in addition to his normal back-and-forth scribbles.
Crayons seem to be working better than markers. They stress me out less, anyway. |

When I go out to pick up the newspaper or the mail, I always slip on my Birkenstocks. Alex has decided that my sneakers make good slip-on shoes for him. He was very proud of himself on this occasion: he made it halfway across the lawn without tripping or slipping out of them before I made him come back. | ![]() |
Well, that's it for another update folks! Alex was with Peter for his birthday so I have no birthday photos. I will be having a small party for him on the 21st of February so there will be some party photos in the next update, which I will probably post in mid-May. Hope everybody had a good Christmas and a fun Valentine's Day! |
