Second Quarter of Alex's second year (May 16th through August 15th)

The result of another trip to Toys'R'Us.  I was under the impression when I bought this mower that it was a "bubble mower" (it would blow bubbles when moved).  So I poured bubble solution in under the gas cap there, and of course it just flowed right through.  I felt pretty dumb.
Alex also became the owner of a new bicycle helmet that day.  I bought one of those bike trailer things for going bicycling with him.
Here's my little "angel" complete with a halo!  :)
Here he is playing in his new crab-shaped sandbox.  At first he wouldn't go IN the sandbox - he would just squat at the edge and play with the stuff in the sand.  Eventually he decided it was ok to actually play IN the sand.
With the advent of warmer weather, Alex's new favourite thing is playing in buckets of water.
"I'm wet!  And loving it!"
"Daddy took me to get my second haircut!!  Mommy says I look like a jarhead, whatever that means."
Check out these cute chairs I got for him.  They were $1 each at a garage sale.
And while we're checking out cute things, check out that cute Old Navy bum!
It's hard to tell in the photo (this is the best I could do!) that he wears his sunglasses around his neck.  If you put them on his face he will pull them off and put them around his neck.  I don't know why.  That is where he thinks they're supposed to be.
Here he is sitting with my next-door neighbour, Eleanor Brown.
He inherited these cute little boots from his cousin Michael.  He loves to wear them around the house.  Note also his favourite book there on the floor: "The Very Quiet Cricket"
Since Alex likes to play in water so much, I bought him one of those cute little wading pools and put it on the deck.  This is the first day we used it (June 2nd).  He initially had his shorts and diaper on but they quickly became very wet.
Dana and Elizabeth came over one hot day and the two babies both played in the pool.  I brought it down onto the grass in a shady area of the back lawn.
And here are the two lovely Rollison ladies:
Alex got  into Dana's diaper bag and found Elizabeth's sunglasses, which he promptly put on in the "proper" place.
Elizabeth was being very cute.
I bought Alex a wagon!  It has a double cup holder and a built-in compartment that holds a dozen beer/soda cans.  Alex really likes to be pulled around in it.
Crayons were not exactly a huge success.  I bought a roll of paper and taped it to the desk and showed him how to draw on it.  He proceeded to rip the paper off and break the crayons and throw them around.  I don't think he's quite ready for them yet.
Here Alex is using the hand sign that signifies "more" (pointing to the palm of his left hand with his right index finger).  I'm very impressed that he's using hand signs.
I just thought this was kind of a neat photo.
Here he is wearing a cute red-and-white playsuit from Lands' End.  And of course it's wet because he's always playing in his buckets of water.
Here he was eating fresh whole strawberries and the juice from them was all over the place.

Now if you'll indulge me in another comparison: Alex in his high chair in July 2002 vs. Alex in his high chair in July 2003.

He really likes to play on my bed.
Here's my little engineer-in-the-making.  He's got a screwdriver and is poking it around in the underside of a sprinkler.
Another day, another sprinkler to take apart.
This is another neat photo due to the interplay of light and shadow, but it loses a lot of its artistic quality when it's cropped and shrunken for the website.
Here's the same photo, uncropped (but shrunken).  I think it's neat because of the patch of light all around Alex and then the dark edges around the patch of light.
A certain small person has learned how to open the shower door!
Here he is lounging around in his shorty pyjamas.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to take a picture of yourself and your baby together?!  This is the photo where I look the least goofy and it's still not great.
"I am the banana man!"
Here I was building a cabinet to install in the garage and Alex "borrowed" the power screwdriver.  He was plugging it into all the little holes he could find and making it go.  He had a ball.  He even figured out how to make it run backwards.
After tiring of the screwdriver he thought it would be fun to get into the lower cabinet while I was trying to jockey it into position.
"Mom!!  How did all these Rice Krispies get here on the floor?!"
"Mom!!  You wouldn't believe how much fun it is to vacuum up these Krispies!!"
A new favourite activity is to load up his little Tonka dump truck with stuff and then drive it all over the house as fast as he can go.  This is an "action shot" so it's sort of blurry.

And yes, I finally broke down and allowed him to play "naked" - it has been very hot recently.

"Here is my banana and here is my head!"

This day I started to buckle him into his high chair at breakfast and a bunch of fruit flies flew out from under the chair pad.  So I had to take the whole thing out on the deck and hose it down before I would allow Alex to sit in it again.  Thus he is eating his breakfast in a "big person" chair.

Don't know why I took this picture but he's just so cute I couldn't resist including it here!
This is the first time he didn't outright refuse peanut butter when I offered it to him.  Not much ended up in his tummy but at least he tried.
Here I liked how the red of his outfit matched the red flowers.  This is in our back yard.
Fingerpainting with m&ms!
I was trying Alex's Eeyore costume on him to see if it still fits.  It's a tiny bit short in the legs but otherwise fits him reasonably well.  I will have to decide whether or not to get him a new costume this Hallowe'en.
"That's it for another update folks!  Mom and I are going to go for a bike ride now!  Look for another update in November."
